We’ve all been there. You save all year for vacation and inevitably, you wind up having a rainy day or two. Here on the Grand Strand, all is not lost. There are plenty of indoor activities to enjoy if the rain keeps you from heading to the beach. Here are my top picks for rainy day activities:
-
Take in a show. There are so many choices! Most places offer matinee as well as evening shows. Have youngsters? You can’t go wrong with Pirates Voyage. With acrobatics, signing, water stunts, and sword fights, there is plenty of action. In the mood for something a bit more tame? The Carolina Opry features a fantastic line-up with something for the entire family. Legends in Concert offers a close up view of some amazing look-alike performers like Adele and Elvis. The Palace Theatre has some great options as well – including Cirque Extreme new in 2016. All three participate in the Oceana Resorts guest privileges program and offer discounts for our guests.
-
710 Bowling offers amazing bowling lanes, free gaming, and delicious food – all in a family-friendly environment. The bowling is affordable and Oceana Resorts guests receive discounts. Bonus? All other gaming is free! Bocce, Foosball, Darts, Billiards – all free! There is enough to do here to keep the entire family happy for several hours. Located in North Myrtle Beach, the drive for our MB guests is worth it. Trust me; you’ll want to at least sample a few appetizers while you are here. The food is fabulous.

Do some shopping. There are so many options for unique shopping experiences. In North Myrtle Beach, take a look at some of the amazing local shops. Wee R Sweetz is a hidden gem offering homemade sweets sure to satisfy any craving. With two locations, Main Street and Barefoot Landing, you’ll be happy you made the short drive to see them. Toby’s World of Gifts features a large offering of coastal décor, jewelry, and handmade candles – just to mention a few things. They are located near Hats Galore – a unique shop that carries hats of every variety imaginable. Skip the touristy gift stores and support these independently owned local businesses. All of them offer discounts to our guests. Should you choose to head to Barefoot Landing (on the northern end of Myrtle Beach), there are other participating merchants including Pepper Palace and Ron Jon Surf Shop.
For our Myrtle Beach guests Wee R Sweets and Ron Jon Surf Shop, mentioned above also have locations in your vicinity. The Market Common is a beautiful setting with a wide variety of shopping opportunities. Our guests receive a free coupon book worth hundreds of dollars in savings. For the outdoorsman or woman in your life, Orvis offers a very appealing discount of $25 off of a $50 purchase. This vast store has everything imaginable for the fly fishing enthusiast! The Walking Company is another Market Common shop that has an offer available to our guests. Check out their many comfortable, fashionable shoe styles.
Tanger Outlets has two locations and features a wide variety of shopping options. Oceana Resorts guests will receive a free discount coupon book with offers from many of their merchants.

Feeling adventurous? Grab some rain gear and head to the beach! As long as there is no thunder and lightning, it can be fun to gear up and splash in the surf. Some of the best shells are found just after a storm when the sea has tossed and turned to unearth buried treasure. Look for a glint of black sparkle in the sand just where the water touches – often, you will find that tiny sparkle is actually a hidden shark’s tooth.
Whatever you decide to do, we can assure you the rain tends to pass through quickly and there is plenty to do – with or without the sun!
