The original Oktoberfest is a 16 day festival that runs from late September into the first weekend of October on the fairgrounds in Munich, Germany. Over six million people visit Munich annually to enjoy the enormous “funfair” and the abundant amusement rides, games, traditional German food and over seven million liters of beer. For those who can’t make it to Germany to take part in this 200 year old tradition, the Grand Strand brings the celebration to you!
Most of the fun takes place Saturday, October 11, when both Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach host their Oktoberfest celebrations. The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk Oktoberfest will span three city blocks along Ocean Boulevard, while the Inaugural North Myrtle Beach Oktoberfest will be held at the brand new NMB Park and Sports Complex.
The Boardwalk Oktoberfest will run from noon until midnight, and has been deemed the “Beach’s Biggest Bavarian Boardwalk Block Party.” This giant event will feature a giant beer garden, food and retail vendors, a German car show, and sidewalk sales at local surrounding businesses. Expect the beer garden to feature some seasonal brews, including Oktoberfest specialties by national brands as well as local breweries.
Oktoberfest isn’t just for the adults though! There will be plenty of fun for the kids. The kid’s area will include a petting zoo (with camel and pony rides), inflatable bounce houses, carnival games and onstage entertainment.
Speaking of entertainment, there will be live music provided by six great regional acts: Yo Mamas Big Fat Booty Band, Joal Rush and the Wares, A Nickel Bag of Funk, Matt Mackelcan Band, C2 and the Brothers Reed, Dino Capone’s Collision Course, and Channelheimer Oompah Band.
Like all of the great events at the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, admission is free. Oceana Resorts has five oceanfront resorts near the Oktoberfest action – Camelot by the Sea is within walking distance from the event, while The Patricia Grand, Anderson Ocean Club, BEST WESTERN PLUS Carolinian Oceanfront Inn and Suites, and Ocean Park Resort are all conveniently located on Ocean Boulevard.
The Inaugural North Myrtle Beach Oktoberfest will take place at the recently completed NMB Park and Sports Complex, also on Saturday October 11th. This festival runs from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm, so Oktoberfest enthusiasts can make time to attend both!
Like the Boardwalk Oktoberfest, there will be plenty of live entertainment, food and drinks. This Oktoberfest features authentic German music as well! There will be more than twenty food vendors serving German food and the “largest” selection of Oktoberfest beer. Guests can also purchase Oktoberfest steins to take home. The kid’s area at this celebration will have inflatables and fun activities including face painting and pumpkin decorating.
Admission to this event is also free. The Park and Sports Complex is located at 150 Citizens Circle in North Myrtle Beach, just a short drive from Harbourgate Marina Club, Bay Watch Resort & Conference Center, and Atlantic Breeze Ocean Resort.
